PSY refers to the number of weaned piglets that each sow can provide each year, and is an important indicator to measure the efficiency of the pig farm and the reproductive performance of the sow.

The majority of breeding friends racked their brains to improve the PSY of sows from several aspects such as parity, genetic factors, ovulation rate and embryo death, nutritional factors, breeding management, boar effect, management level, and reproductive diseases. Few people are concerned about anemia and are stealing their profits.

A recent study in the Scandinavian Journal of Veterinary Medicine found that the hemoglobin concentration (Hb) of piglets was positively correlated with the Hb of the sow (P=0.058), and the stillbirth rate was negatively correlated with the Hb of the sow (P=0.021) ), the results show that increasing the Hb of sows can increase the Hb of newborn piglets and reduce the stillbirth rate.

A similar study in the journal ANIMAL of the University of Cambridge Publishing Group in the United Kingdom found that the Hb levels (0.64±0.47) of sows and piglets were positively genetically correlated; the higher the average Hb level of piglets, the lower the number of dead piglets (−0.78±0.35) ), and the higher the survival rate before weaning (0.28±0.33). The results show that hemoglobin concentration (Hb) can be used as an index for genetic selection of breeding pigs. Breeding sows with high Hb levels, their piglets will have a higher survival rate.
